It was a pleasure to welcome former King’s pupil, Maddy Dinsdale (OKS 2017) back to King’s to speak to pupils about her career path since leaving school.
After Sixth Form, Maddy secured an apprenticeship which resulted in a degree in Applied Chemical Sciences from the University of Kent. Maddy worked in laboratories for five years before moving into account management for a scientific equipment company. Most recently, she has worked in product management for Waters Corporation and has recently been promoted to Principal Product Manager.
Pupils were pleased to hear from someone who had been in their position just a few years ago as Maddy opened their eyes to the possibilities that lie at their feet. We were also pleased to get a parents’ perspective from Maddy’s Mum – our very own maths teacher, Mrs Cooper – who also joined us.
Head of Futures, Mrs Clare Holland, thanked Maddy for her insights: “Maddy was very honest and open about the demands of the world of work and pupils really appreciated this. They asked pertinent questions about apprenticeships and university degrees and, in what has become a running theme of this term’s careers breakfast, they learned that career paths rarely run in a straight line.”
Our next Careers Breakfast will take place after Easter. Keep an eye out for more information in the new term.
