Many thanks to former pupil Ollie Melville (OKS 2021) for our latest Careers Breakfast, which gave a great insight into early careers, specifically in transport.
Ollie left King’s in 2021 to study Geography at the University of Leeds and he spoke eloquently about the move from school to university. He also explained the process of applying for his placement year whilst at university, as well as applying for graduate jobs.
Ollie now works as an Assistant Consultant (Rail Operations) at SYSTRA UK and Ireland, making good use of his degree. Current pupils were interested to see his career timeline, which showcased his academic qualifications alongside all-important transferable skills such as communication and customer service that he gained through his summer jobs.
Head of Futures, Clare Holland, thanked Ollie for his insights. She said: “It is always valuable for current pupils to hear from recent King’s alumni and today was certainly no exception. Ollie spoke brilliantly about his career path since leaving school and I know that pupils enjoyed listening to his experiences in university and as a recent graduate.
“Ollie is a fantastic example of the careers mantra, do what you like and do what you’re good at, and that is a great thing for our current pupils to learn!”
