Thank you to Ben Kapur (OKS 2004) for a fascinating Careers Breakfast all about Orthopaedic Surgery.
Ben, a former King’s pupil, is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee replacements.
Ben talked to our aspiring medics about his career path since leaving King’s and graduating from the University of Manchester, including his experience of working both for the NHS and in private practice.
Pupils were fascinated by the various props that Ben brought along with him, particularly enjoying the titanium-plated knee joint worth £10,000!
Head of Futures, Clare Holland, thanked Ben for his interesting talk, and for answering pupil questions.
She said: “So many King’s pupils are hoping to pursue a career in Medicine and it is invaluable for them to hear directly from someone who has followed that career path. The fact that Ben is an alumnus of the school is great as it helps our current pupils picture themselves as a surgeon.
“What really came across this morning was that, as well as the academic requirements for studying medicine, surgeons need to be compassionate and committed to making a difference to individuals – qualities that Ben clearly has in abundance!”
Next week, we will welcome Neuroscience Researcher and Academic, Dr Ruth Taylor. Senior School pupils can sign up now on SOCS.
