Careers: Dr Natalie Kenny

It was a pleasure to welcome Dr Natalie Kenny, founder and CEO of BioGrad to speak to aspiring medics and scientists at King’s.

BioGrad is a leader in science and education, advancing medicine, clinical research, biobanking and laboratory services, and Dr Kenny is passionate about facilitating science skills development in the North West. 

She talked about how her own career as a bioscientist and business owner has stretched from Spain to Peru to the North West where The Wirral and Cheshire now host a bio-manufacturing “super cluster” of companies. 

Dr Kenny spoke passionately about pathways into Medicine and scientific careers, specifically advocating for degree apprenticeships which she sees as the only qualification that can keep up with the speed of development within science. 

Head of Futures, Clare Holland, thanked Natalie for her time. She said: “Students loved hearing from Natalie today, especially as she really understands that so many young people are motivated by earning potential as well as to help people. She gave a whistlestop tour of careers in science and medicine, and gave real insight into the need for bioscience and pharmaceutical research skills.”
