Cadets from the King’s School Combined Cadet Force recently completed a varied and demanding fieldcraft programme during Spring Camp, held this year at Altcar.
The CCF programme is one of the most popular co-curricular activities on offer at The King’s School, giving pupils the opportunity to develop personal responsibility, leadership, self-reliance, and discipline through military-themed training. All of these skills – and more – were on display on Spring Camp.
Highlights for the young cadets included patrol lanes, a stalk exercise and a platoon ambush, alongside an overnight deployment where cadets built and tested their shelters in wet conditions. The night movement exercise through tunnels in complete darkness also proved a memorable experience for all!
The camp was led by Major Lee. He said: “Throughout the whole weekend, cadets showed energy, resilience, and strong teamwork, whether on the march in full kit, cooking in harbour areas, or enduring the meticulous process of weapon cleaning.
“It was pleasure to be with the cadets this weekend. They were intelligent, hard working, and consistently positive, and it was great to see their confidence and teamwork develop over the course of the camp.”
