Cricket: Girls celebrate historic Cheshire Cup

It has been a memorable summer for girls’ hardball cricket at King’s, with both our U13 and U15 teams enjoying an outstanding season packed with competitive fixtures and reaching the Cheshire Cup Final in their respective age groups.

Co-captained by Agatha Simmons (4GRO) and Lucy Graham (3WAL), the U15 side secured an impressive semi-final victory over King’s Macclesfield, thanks to exceptional bowling performances from Imogen Pugh (4FOX) and Imogen Carway (3GRO), alongside a match-winning innings from Lucy Graham.

The team then produced an even stronger display in the final against Cheadle Hulme. Florence Davies (3WAL) led the bowling attack superbly before Agatha and Lucy combined for an unbeaten century partnership, guiding King’s to a commanding nine-wicket victory.

The result crowned the U15s as Cheshire Cup Champions – a landmark achievement as the first girls’ team in the school’s history to win the prestigious competition.

The U13 girls, co-captained by Ivy Thompson (SHGLA) and Jess Rayner (SHDUT), also enjoyed a fantastic campaign and reached their own Cheshire Cup Final, hosted on home soil at King’s. Facing a strong Wilmslow High side, the team gave an excellent account of themselves before finishing as worthy runners-up.

Both teams represented the school with tremendous pride, determination and sportsmanship throughout the season, demonstrating significant progress in the development of girls’ hardball cricket at King’s.

With increasing participation and success across the programme, the future looks exceptionally bright, and we look forward to continuing to grow girls’ hardball cricket across all age groups in the years ahead.
