Dance Club adds a touch of sparkle to the end of term

Members of Removes Dance Club shimmied into the end of Lent term with a special showcase for family and friends this week.

Since September, the boys and girls have met on Wednesday lunchtimes to choreograph and practise their dances, choosing their own theme for the showcase and choosing their own music. In recent weeks, they have also designed their costumes and worked with the Theatre Technician to ensure that the lighting and sound were just right.

The theme of the showcase was Songs from Musicals and Movies, and the audience was treated to a number of energetic performances to music from favourites such as Mamma Mia, Barbie, Grease and The Greatest Showman.

Dance Club is led by Mrs Davis, who was very proud of the pupils.

She said: “They have worked so hard on their dances, and on everything else that goes into putting on a show like this. We only meet for around half an hour every week, which makes this evening’s incredible performances even more impressive.”

Head of Removes, Emily Sherriff, was in the audience for the showcase.

She said: “For me, this is what King’s – especially the first year – is all about. These pupils have worked together to create an amazing show but more than that, through Dance Club, they have made new friends, spent their lunchtimes doing something they enjoy, learned how to express their creativity and picked up a whole host of new skills. I am very proud of all of them.”
