A win for King’s debate team

Congratulations to Gwen Olson (5GRO), Mahima Hansoge (L6WAL) and Layla Rodrigues (L6WER) who are through to the next round of the English Speaking Union (ESU) Schools’ Mace.

The ESU’s Schools’ Mace is the oldest and largest debating competition for schools in England. It aims to give students the opportunity to hone skills in debate, speech-writing, public speaking and critical thinking.

Earlier this week, Gwen, Mahima and Layla competed in the first regional round of the 2021/22 competition, proposing the motion: This house would require fathers to take paternity leave.

The team was successful in advancing the motion and they now progress to the second regional round which will take place in January 2022.
