The Economics Department recently ran an essay competition for the fourth years, asking them “Does Deindustrialisation Matter?”
Miss Hillier set the essay question and was one of the teachers tasked with choosing a winner. Although it was far from an easy decision, she was swayed by the detailed research and referencing demonstrated by winner Rohith Muthuvelu (4DUT) and runner-up Maya Swift (4BRD). Head of Economics, Mr Walton was also one of the judges.
He said: “The winner and the runner-up both produced truly impressive pieces of work, especially when we consider that they have only been studying the subject for barely nine months.”
In his winning essay, Rohith explored the positive and negative effects of deindustrialisation on different nations and their economies, as well on the environment.
In her essay, runner-up Maya examined the profound impact that deindustrialisation has on society as a whole, and discusses the multitude of reasons why it does matter.
Rohith and Maya were presented with their prizes by our Economics prefects, Maria Rich (L6LES) and Aryan Agarwal (L6GLA).
