An Evening with Big Band

On Tuesday, 20 February, parents, staff and pupils were treated to an entertaining evening in the Recital Hall courtesy of our Big Band musicians.

Featuring a varied programme that included pieces by artists and composers as wide ranging as Elton John, Guns N Roses and Sammy Davis Jr, the audience were tapping their toes from the moment the first note was played until the last.

An original composition by Lower Sixth student Zach Hard Af Segerstad-Smith (L6GLA) was premiered at the event, attracting praise from the Head.

Mr Hartley said: “I had an excellent evening with the Big Band tonight. The highlight for me was Zach’s wonderful composition, Is this all we are?

As well as showcasing the talents of Big Band, the evening also featured the popular Kings of Funk who played a Top Gun medley, and two soloists, Daniel Goharriz (5GRO) and Henry Parker (5WAL).

Director of Music, Debbie Whitfield, thanked the musicians for their contributions, the audience for their support, and Mr Ortiz and Miss Banerjee for their work with the musicians.

She said: “Evenings like this give us a great opportunity to celebrate the incredible musical talent we have in school.

“Big Band and the Kings of Funk bring a great deal of energy to their music and the audience always leaves on a high!”
