Former pupil, Matt Eglin, gives pupils an insight into the Software Sector

On Friday 25 January, Computer Science pupils were given the opportunity to hear from former pupil Matt Eglin (OKS 2008) about his experience working in the software sector.

After leaving King’s, Matt went on to read Software Engineering at Durham University. Post University, he gained experience working for a couple of different companies before taking on his latest role as Senior Consultant for US company Splunk, working out of their London office.  Splunk is an American public multinational corporation based in San Francisco, California, that produces software for searching, monitoring, and analysing machine-generated big data, via a Web-style interface. With clients including Porsche, Nike, Coca-Cola, and UCAS, Matt discussed how his role was incredibly varied and involved travel all over the world.

Reflecting on his own experience since leaving King’s, he strongly advised pupils to consider Computing courses that include the opportunity to have a year working in the industry, as it’s such a boost when looking for that first job.

It was a fascinating talk and really inspiring for pupils to hear from someone with a really successful career and who is obviously so passionate about his job.
