On Saturday, 5 March, the Faculty of Creative Arts held its annual Arts Dinner at the DoubleTree Hilton in Chester.
Open to students from Fourths to Upper Sixth who study or take part in extra-curricular drama, music, art and DT, the dinner has become a popular event in the King’s calendar.
Head of Faculty, Mr Downey, explained why it is an important night for staff and students.
He said: “Creative Arts are strong at King’s. We encourage students to embrace their creativity and allow it to flow and flourish and this is a chance for students and teachers to celebrate all the work, effort and enjoyment of being an artist, designer, musician and actor.
“It is also an opportunity for us to celebrate the progress and success of our students.”
Awards were presented to a number of students in recognition of their commitment to Arts at King’s:
Music: Weston Heller (L6FOX) and Mads Ornsby (L6BRD)
Drama: Sameer Dhanjee (U6DUT), Freya Beyeler (U6WER) and Winnie Thomas (U6LES)
Art: Arabella Davidson (U6DUT)
DT: Felix Wright (U6LES)
Music was provided by Edmund Hartley (U6GRO) and Adèle Bracegirdle (L6WAL), and Mr Downey gave an inspirational speech, in which he urged students to embrace their skills and talent, to work hard and to not give up doing the things they love.
Taking place the day after the final performance of Grease, it was perhaps no surprise that the cast took an impromptu turn in the spotlight to delight their peers and teachers with the hits from the show one more time.
Venue staff also stayed to enjoy the performances and, for Mr Downey, this summed the evening up.
He concluded: “We see our students every day, and we are always impressed by what they can do.
“However, every now and again, like this evening, an outsider sees our students perform and their reaction reminds us of how incredible they are, and what a credit they are to the school.”
Thank you to the staff who organised the evening, and to Mrs Williams and Nathan Cheetham (L6GLA) for their technical skills in ensuring that everything ran smoothly on the night.
