Gallery: When the circus came to Willow Lodge

Children in Infant 1 at have been treated to an unforgettable day of circus-themed fun as part of this term’s topic, The Day the Circus Came to Town.

For one day only, Willow Lodge was transformed into the Big Top as they welcomed Angelo and Melanie from the Magical Circus to learn more about circus traditions, enjoy a circus show and even learn some circus skills themselves.

Melanie captivated the children with stories from the rich history of the circus, sharing tales from Angelo’s family, who have been performers for generations. The children also had the chance to dress up in traditional circus costumes, adding even more fun to the immersive experience.

Under Angelo’s expert guidance, the pupils were keen to learn circus skills for themselves, including plate spinning, juggling, using a diablo, and even walking on stilts. The day culminated in a thrilling performance by Angelo and Melanie, showcasing the talents of the professionals and inspiring the children even further.

Deputy Head of Willow Lodge, Miss Gardiner, expressed her gratitude to Angelo and Melanie and praised the children on mastering the new skills:

She said: “What a wonderful way to finish our circus topic!

“Not only have the children enjoyed a taste of the circus, they’ve also had the chance to get involved themselves. They all worked really hard to master the skills that Angelo taught them, and it was great to see them learn from their mistakes and keep trying until they succeeded.

“Today has been a fitting finale to a term filled with creativity and discovery.”
