On Saturday, 7 October, King’s School Rowing Club (KRSC) collaborated with Royal Shrewsbury School Boat Club (RSSBC) and Monmouth School for Girls Rowing Club to host a private fixture.
During the event, the J15 squads raced against each other in coxed quads and octuples, beginning the day with a time trial to establish a speed order. This was followed by multiple side-by-side races over a 750-metre course.
James Gray, Assistant Director of Rowing, said: “This set-up provided our rowers with valuable experience in both head races and regatta racing. Despite the friendly atmosphere, the presence of enthusiastic supporters did add a competitive edge to the event!”
Meanwhile, Monmouth School for Girls Rowing Club brought two senior eights for a training weekend, engaging in friendly competition with KSRC’s J16 and senior girls’ teams.
James Gray continued: “Over the course of the two days, and under excellent weather conditions, the four eights covered a total of 60km on the River Dee. This extensive practice not only built confidence but also laid strong foundations for, what we hope will be, a successful upcoming season.”
“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the King’s School Rowing Club Parents Association (KSRCPA) for organising a soup kitchen and bake sale. The athletes and staff were immensely grateful for the nourishment provided, especially after a productive afternoon on the water.”
A special thank you also goes to Athol Hundermark, Director of Rowing at RSSBC, for capturing some great photographs of the day.
