Gallery: Sports Dinner 2024

Our annual Sports Dinner was held at the end of March and we were delighted to welcome students, staff and parents to Chester Racecourse to celebrate the many sporting successes of the year.

Following a delicious meal, team captains entertained guests with their speeches and each of them recognised one of their teammates with a Players’ Player Award.

The unwavering support of parents is central to the success of sport at King’s and it was an honour to be joined at the dinner by parents of our Upper Sixth athletes.

One of those parents was Dr Andrew Boyd whose son Duncan (U6) is 1st XI captain, and also one of the Sports Prefects responsible for organising the event.

He said: “Duncan has been at King’s since J1 and has always been proud to represent the school on the sports fields.

“He and his older brother Douglas cherished their time at King’s and our whole family has very much enjoyed our time spent watching and playing sport.”

The evening was expertly compered by Assistant Director of Sport, Krista Jones, who had the pleasure of introducing special guest, professional cricketer and King’s Alumna, Kate Coppack (OKS 2012).

Kate concluded the evening with a speech that reflected on her time at King’s and advice as an elite sportswoman: “I was delighted to be asked to return to King’s as guest of honour at this celebration of sport.

“My time playing sport at King’s was a key part of my development as an athlete and I very much appreciate the opportunities I had at a school with such a strong sporting tradition.”

During her time at King’s, Kate became the first girl to play for the 1st XI and she was delighted to be presented with her 1st XI cap by Mrs Jones as a thank you for speaking at the Sports Dinner.

Mrs Jones also thanked the Sports Prefects for organising such a successful event, and  staff for their dedication to sport throughout the year.
