Gallery: Third annual Culture Day celebrates cultural diversity at King’s

Culture Day has become one of the highlights of The King’s School calendar and our third annual celebration of cultural diversity, held on Thursday, 30 April, was our biggest yet.

For the first time, children in Willow Lodge and Junior School joined in the celebrations. They shared artefacts and stories from their own cultural heritage, and dressed to reflect their home cultures, creating opportunities for lively conversation and learning.

In Senior School, the much-anticipated Culture Fair made a welcome return, transforming the Gallery and the Quad into a lively hub of activity where pupils shared food, ideas, games and more from around the world.

As always, the culinary delicacies were especially popular. From sweet treats to savoury specialities, pupils and staff enjoyed sampling dishes from a wide range of cultures, with Egyptian rice pudding – kindly made by Giovanna and her grandmother – a firm favourite.

The day was organised by Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator, Miss Higgins who was ably assisted by Sixth Formers and members of the EDI pupil group.

Miss Higgins said: “Today has been a true celebration of the rich cultural diversity that makes King’s so special.

“It is a chance for pupils to share something meaningful about their own backgrounds, whilst also learning from and celebrating the experiences of others. Seeing pupils of all ages come together to celebrate our community has been incredibly special.”
