The boys’ first team has enjoyed a remarkable season, ending the season as U18 Cheshire Cup winners, U18 national Tier 2 quarter-finalists and U19 ISHC national semi-finalists, marking a fitting end to the Upper Sixth players’ time at King’s.
Their final match of the season was played on the Independent School Finals Day at Nottingham and was the first time that King’s had qualified in the last four at this national level.
Playing against the top hockey schools in the country, they came fourth on the day and faced St George’s College Weybridge in the bronze medal game. The game was level until well into the second half with Finn Leonard (U6WAL) scoring his 110th goal in a first team shirt, but fell to late goals from the opposition.
The team was accompanied to Nottingham by their coach, Dr Chris Ashcroft who had nothing but praise for the team.
He said: “This season has seen the best ever outcomes for boys’ hockey at King’s and the first team has led the way. Their commitment and teamwork is second-to-none; they have held themselves to high standards all season and act as fantastic role models to our younger players.
“They fully deserve the success they have experienced this year and can be very proud that they were the first U19 team to make it to the ISHC national finals.”
