Congratulations to our girls’ 1st XI who have been crowned County Hockey Champions.
On Wednesday, 11 March, the girls travelled to The King’s School Macclesfield for the County Cup final where they faced three teams in a triangular tournament.
In the first two matches, the girls scored an incredible 14 goals, beating Birkenhead 9-0 and winning 5-0 against The Grange.
Their final match against King’s Macclesfield proved challenging, especially with the opposition playing so well in defence, but the King’s girls dug in and a close match ended in a 0-0 draw.
An advantageous goal difference was enough for King’s to win the tournament and Deputy Head, Mrs Sumner, congratulated the team.
She said: “This was a well-deserved victory for the girls who put on a strong performance today; to win without conceding a goal is a fantastic achievement.
“For the four Upper Sixth girls in the team, this was their last tournament representing the school and it proved a fitting end to their hockey career at King’s. Sophie and Anna have represented the school since they were in Juniors, whilst Martha and Emily, who joined us at Sixth Form, have been a brilliant addition to the team over the last two years.”
We are very proud of the whole team which comprises of girls from Fourths to Upper Sixth.
