Hockey: National silver for U13 boys

Huge congratulations to the U13 boys who took national silver at the recent Independent Schools Hockey Cup finals in Nottingham.

Facing Kingston Grammar School in an exciting semi-final match, King’s secured their place in the national final with a 2-1 victory after taking the lead in the last six minutes of the match.

The boys went into the final against Whitgift with the knowledge that our U16s had recently beat the Croydon School in the national quarter-finals, giving them a confidence that stayed with them for the whole match.

The nail-biting game was full of end-to-end action but Whitgift proved the slightly stronger side to win 3-1.

Coach Chris Ashcroft was full of praise for the team.

He said: “This is the sixth national medal that the school has won in recent years and, despite the scoreline, I believe that this was arguably the most dominant performance of any King’s team in a national final.

“The season isn’t over yet for this talented team as they have another final to come – the In2Hockey finals in May. Today’s match has given them valuable experience as they prepare for that and, indeed, as they prepare for the years ahead of them.”

Director of Hockey, Simon Egerton added: “Hockey at King’s is in great shape at the moment. We are hugely competitive across all age groups and it shows no sign of ending any time soon.”
