Honouring the Remarkable Careers of Steve Downey and Seb Neal

This term, The King’s School comes together to celebrate the remarkable careers and well-deserved retirements of two treasured members of our community, Steve Downey and Seb Neal.

Steve Downey, our dedicated Art teacher and Faculty Head of Creative Arts & PE, has been a cornerstone of the school for an incredible 41 years. Throughout his tenure, Steve has inspired generations of students with his passion for the arts, fostering a vibrant and welcoming environment that encouraged self-expression and achieved outstanding results year-on-year. His commitment to nurturing creative talent, as well as his kindness and wisdom as a Tutor and Faculty Head, has left an indelible mark on the school’s culture.

Similarly, Seb Neal, our History teacher and Faculty Head of Language and Humanities, has devoted 33 years to enriching the minds of students with his infectious and legendary love of history. Seb’s engaging teaching style and deep knowledge have sparked curiosity and a lifelong appreciation of his subject in countless pupils. As a leader, he has guided his faculty with wisdom and dedication, ensuring high standards and a supportive atmosphere for both staff and students.

George Hartley, Headmaster,  said: “Both Steve and Seb have not only been exceptional educators but also beloved colleagues and mentors. Their warmth, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to King’s have made them invaluable pillars of our community. 

“As we bid them farewell, we celebrate their extraordinary contributions. Their legacy will live on in the classrooms and corridors of The King’s School and in the innumerable lives they have enriched. They will be greatly missed, but we wish them all the best in their well-earned retirement.”
