Six King’s girls are looking forward to an exciting summer as they celebrate their selection for this season’s Cheshire County Cricket squad.
Congratulations to Fifth year pupils Charlie and Isla, Agatha in Thirds, Shells pupils Ellory and Lucy, and Chloe in J3. Their selection ensures that at least one King’s girl will play in every age group.
The Senior School girls regularly play for the school, representing King’s on both the girls’ teams and in the first teams for their respective year groups.
Chloe is one of our Junior School pupils who plays with the J4 boys team and has also been invited to train with the U12 girls hardball team in Senior School.
Director of Cricket, Mark Baker, congratulated the girls on their achievement.
He said: “As a school, we are incredibly very proud of these girls. As well as being exceptional players, they are all fantastic role models for other pupils and have played an important role in the growth of the girls’ game at King’s.
“To have a King’s player in every age group for Cheshire is phenomenal and is real testament to the talent and dedication of these girls.”
Girls’ cricket is continuing to thrive at King’s and, for the first time, the school will be playing in the Cheshire County Cup.
Mr Baker continued: “The uptake of and interest in hardball cricket has grown and grown and I am thrilled that our U13 Girls’ Hardball cricket team will be playing in this year’s Cheshire County Cup, building on the success of their softball cricket in recent years.
“The girls are training for hardball cricket on Wednesday mornings before school and our county players are doing a great job of helping the girls who are transitioning across from softball to hardball cricket.”
The first game in the Cheshire Cup will take place at home against The Grange on Thursday, 22 May. The girls are also entered in the Wrekin College U13 Cricket Sixes Competition this summer.
