Introducing our new Head of Willow Lodge and Junior School - The King's School Chester

Introducing our new Head of Willow Lodge and Junior School

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Michelle Dewhurst as our new Headteacher of Willow Lodge Infants and King’s Junior School.

Michelle joins King’s from Rugby School Thailand, succeeding Margaret Ainsworth, who retired at the end of the last academic year after more than a decade of dedicated service.

Michelle shared her enthusiasm about the new role: “This appointment feels like a wonderful homecoming.

“Having studied in Chester and made Cheshire my home after graduation, I have always been aware of the King’s School’s fantastic reputation, and I am absolutely delighted to be joining such a well-established school known for its academic success, high expectations and commitment to excellence.

“It is also clear to me that King’s is a truly warm and welcoming school. I had the pleasure of spending a very enjoyable few days with staff and pupils both before Easter and at the end of summer term and thoroughly enjoyed my time with the children.”

Headmaster George Hartley welcomed Michelle back to the school this week, just ahead of the official start of term.

He said: “In an impressive career spanning 26 years, Michelle has gained a wealth of experience in academic and pastoral leadership in independent schools in the UK and internationally.

“She is passionate about her commitment to the development of the whole child, an approach that aligns perfectly with our values at King’s and builds on ten years of the highest possible standards of practice in this area from Mrs Ainsworth.

“We are excited to see Michelle bring her extensive experience to Willow Lodge Infants and the Junior School.”

In the classroom, Michelle champions excellence in teaching and learning, healthy competition, and a holistic approach to education – all underpinned by a culture of kindness. Her background in teaching PE and Games also fuels her passion for encouraging a lifelong love of sport in all children.

Reflecting on her first official day at King’s today, Michelle said: “Today’s Induction Day was a truly uplifting experience.

“The warmth and enthusiasm from staff made me feel instantly at home. It reaffirmed everything I already believed about King’s – it’s a place where excellence and kindness go hand-in-hand.

“It is a huge privilege to be given the opportunity to lead this strong, well-respected school and I am excited to get to know the pupils, parents and colleagues at the heart of the school community.”

Current parents will have the opportunity to meet Michelle in the new term, and prospective families can meet her at the Willow Lodge and Junior School Open Day on Saturday, 11 October.
