Jacob shines in international tournament

During the Easter holidays, Jacob Watson (3WAL) took part in an international tournament on the Costa Brava with his U14 Manchester United Academy team.

The MICFootball tournament is held annually in Spain and welcomes teams from some of the best football academies around the world. It gives young players the unique opportunity to play internationally against the top players in their age group and follow in the footsteps of stars such as Messi, Neymar Jr and Coutinho, who all took part in the tournament in their youth.

Jacob and his teammates played against teams from the UK, Europe, US and Canada before facing Barcelona in the Quarter Finals. 

Although the team’s campaign ended with Barcelona’s victory, Jacob was delighted to be named in the tournament’s best 11. Of the 800+ players who competed in the same age group, the organisers named Jacob as their best Centre Midfielder. 

Jacob has been with the Manchester United Academy since he was five years old and the club has recently confirmed that he will be with them for another two years, taking him through to U16s.
