Joe heads to the USA

Congratulations to Joe Flory (OKS 2022) who will be taking up a place at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota later this year.

In his Upper Sixth year, Joe was part of our Head of School team and a key player in the first XI, scoring a record 65 goals in his final season for King’s and breaking a record that was previously held by his older brother Sam (OKS 2019).

It is therefore no surprise that Joe is following his dream of playing football at a US college. Having received a number of offers from colleges across the United States, Joe chose Gustavus Adolphus College for its excellent soccer programme and impressive national record.

Tudor Flintham is Head Coach at Gustavus and is delighted that Joe will be joining them.

He said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have Joe join our team and community. Joe’s eye for a goal will make a difference, and potentially push us to an even higher level but it’s more than just his talent as a player that has impressed us.

“From conversations with Joe and his family, it is clear that they fit our values and we have the same goals. I think that Joe will accomplish a great deal here both on and off the pitch.”

Gustavus Adolphus College is a liberal arts college where Joe will study a mixture of business, management and economics before deciding on his major.

Joe is looking forward to the challenge: “The coaches have been so welcoming already and that is one of the reasons I chose Gustavus. They have a really good soccer programme and I cannot wait to start playing over there.”

Good luck to Joe from everyone at King’s. We look forward to following his journey as a college student in the USA.
