Exploring Viking warriors

Pupils have been enjoying studying Viking warriors and their weapons this term.

They were tasked with researching various designs to produce their own shield and paint with a limited colour palette. They have included symbols such as Thor’s hammer and miniature helmets. They included a ‘boss’ in the centre as this would be the only part of the shield that survived.

Pupils then visited Weaver Hall where they dressed up as Viking warriors/farmers and learnt about trading before re-enacting a battle lead by a Berserker.  They also acted out Viking burial and learnt the significance of ‘grave goods’ and compared to a model of a grave excavated 100 years later to see what had survived.
