Pupils, teachers and parents from The King’s Junior School showed what community spirit is all about last weekend as they stepped up at short notice to take charge of one of the Chester Half Marathon drinks stations.
It was an early start for our team of 30 dedicated supporters who arrived in Mollington at 6.45am to set up Drinks Station 4 and spent more than five hours cheering on the 7,000 runners taking part in the event.
Throughout the morning, their endless energy helped to create an unforgettable atmosphere for participants and spectators alike.
Leading the team was J4 teacher, David O’Neil. He said: “Our station was impossible to miss thanks to our creative signs, motivating musical playlist, enthusiastic cheering – and not forgetting our tambourine banging!
“I know how much the support will have meant to each and every one of the runners on the course today. They encouraged everyone by name, which will have come at a time in the race when they needed it the most!
“The sense of community today has been incredible and this memory of supporting the local mass event – and the amazing charity runners – will be something that our children remember for a long time to come.”
Junior School staff and families worked tirelessly to set up, support and tidy up, helping the event run smoothly from start to finish. Although the volunteers ended the day with lost voices and tired feet, there were smiles all around as they went home with their goodie bags, crew t-shirts and a real sense of accomplishment.
Well done to everyone who represented King’s on the course this year; we are looking forward to doing it all again in 2027. A huge congratulations also to the members of King’s School staff who ran, putting in brilliant performances, with some even achieving PBs!
