King’s launch fifth Book Awards and Parents’ Book Club

This is the 5^th year of the School Book Awards and the 3^rd time that we have split into two age categories. The idea behind our Book Awards is that pupils, parents and staff read as many of the books as they can between now and the beginning of March.  There will be a vote during Book Week, with the winners being announced on the Friday.  Staff and parents will be allowed to vote across the two age categories, and we will have an ‘adult’s choice’ winner as well.  Next term, we will hopefully be arranging some author visits/Skype chats, and there will be some quizzes too.

We are also delighted to now hold our very own Parents’ Book Club. The club meets once a month and will discuss one book from each age category each time.  So many people signed up that we are running two groups each time – one on a Wednesday morning and one on a Thursday afternoon.  The idea is that parents are reading the same books as their children and they can talk about them and even recommend to each other.  It’s also a great chance for parents to meet each other (who wouldn’t normally meet perhaps) and to share ideas about what to read next/what other people’s children are enjoying.
