King’s rowers take to the water in Seville

Over October half-term, our J16 and senior team rowers travelled to Seville to train at a high-performance rowing centre.

This was the first visit to Seville for King’s School Rowing Club (KSRC). The training camp aimed to develop fitness, strength and skills on the water and the rowers relished the opportunity to train in a professional environment.

The week saw the squads training up to three times per day in near-perfect, sunny conditions. Also making the most of the top-class facilities were the Spanish and Irish Olympic teams, giving students an invaluable opportunity to observe elite athletes both on and off the water.

In their leisure time, students were given the opportunity to explore the city, taking in its orange tree lined streets and sampling the delights of Seville’s bustling tapas restaurants.

Assistant Director of Rowing, James Gray said: “Many UK schools have used Seville as a winter training base, and we were delighted to create this opportunity for our senior athletes.

“It was great to see all athletes training hard, taking coaching on board, and forging strong bonds within their squads. Particularly memorable for me was our last day when we enjoyed an afternoon in the centre of Seville, taking in the culture and having fun.”
