The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an annual, international literature quiz for pupils aged 10-13. King’s entered the Merseyside heat with two teams from the Senior School and one team from the Junior School.
The quiz was incredibly tough, with categories covering a wide variety of themes including ‘Ships’, ‘Females’, ‘Comics and cartoons’ and ‘Aliases’. The teams got off to a great start, with each team getting the top score in the first three rounds, which meant that they won a set of books each. The scores were incredibly close throughout the competition and other schools came through strongly on later rounds, so that by the end of the questions we had no idea who was going to take the trophy.
In an unprecedented result, King’s took the top 3 places in the heat (a total of 24 teams took part), with the Junior team coming 3rd and the two Senior teams taking 1st and 2nd place.
When the results were announced, all three teams were jubilant, and perhaps most importantly, all pupils were thrilled with the success of the others as much as with their own. They have all worked so hard to prepare for this quiz, which is no easy feat as there are no set books and the questions could cover anything from a children’s classic to the latest bestseller and anything in between! The result is also testament to the reading culture that all at King’s, from Willow Lodge right through to the Senior School, have worked so hard to build.
The winning team of Gemma Christie (ShGRO), Eleanor Rogers (RmCS) and Elliott Barnes (RmAI) will now travel to London on December 4 where they will compete against the winners of the other 18 UK heats for the chance to compete in the World Final in New Zealand in 2020.
