On Wednesday, 12 June, we said Guten Tag to 22 students and 2 teachers from Chester’s twin town of Lörrach in Germany.
As part of a week-long trip to Chester, students from the Freie Evangelische Schule enjoyed a tour of the school and a Kahoot quiz about Chester and The King’s School before a quick introduction to cricket with Director of Sport, Mr Lunn.
The eighth grade pupils also met with Shells pupils in 1541 where they had the opportunity to chat over refreshments, all practising their English and German skills to find out more about each other’s hometowns.
Lörrach is in South West Germany, on the border with both France and Switzerland, which means that the students attending the school come from three different countries. A truly international environment!
Matt Bircham is one of the German teachers at King’s and he led the welcome to our visitors.
He said: “This is the second year we have welcomed students from Lörrach to King’s and I am pleased that it is becoming something of a tradition.
“The students from both schools have enjoyed the opportunity to chat and get to know each other.
“As a language teacher, I know that real-life opportunities to practise the skills they learn in the classroom are invaluable and today has really helped them grow in confidence.”
The staff and students from Lörrach are staying with families in and around Chester and are looking forward to visiting other local places of interest such as Liverpool and North Wales during their stay.
