Lucky charms for the new year

Groovy Greek club is a popular after-school club for Infant 2 children where they learn about Greek language and culture.

This half-term, the children have been making lucky charms and learning about their meaning to Greek people.

Believed to reflect bad luck and bad intentions, the blue charms are called mati and are traditionally gifted at New Year.

Mrs Hartley-Richards runs Groovy Greek club and was very impressed with the children’s work.

She said: “They have really enjoyed making the lucky charms and learning about Greek beliefs and traditions at the same time.”
