Mathematicians go for gold

This year, 150 pupils from Thirds, Fourths and Fifths rose to the challenge when they took part in the UK Mathematical Trust (UKMT) Intermediate Maths Challenge.

This nationally recognised, 60-minute multiple-choice competition is designed to stretch and inspire pupils, rewarding clear mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and confident use of core techniques through a series of engaging and thought-provoking problems.

Pupils performed very well, with 87 pupils achieving a certificate and ten progressing to the next round. 11 pupils achieved a gold certificate, 40 achieved silver and 36 achieved bronze.

Deputy Head of Maths, Helen Sugarman, congratulated them on their achievement: “We are extremely proud of all the pupils who took part in the Intermediate Maths Challenge. Competitions like this are invaluable in extending learning beyond the curriculum and nurturing a real passion for mathematics.

“These results reflect pupils’ willingness to challenge themselves and think creatively, as well as their strong mathematical ability.”
