Following their success in the annual Mathematical Education on Merseyside (MEM) challenges, two King’s pupils are looking forward to an evening of celebration at the University of Liverpool.
The MEM challenges have been running in February half term holidays for almost 50 years, annually attracting entries from across the region and beyond.
The challenges are split into two categories, each aimed at a different age group. The “best in school” for each category is invited to an evening of mathematical recreation in the Central Teaching Hub at the University of Liverpool, where they will be presented with their prize.
Congratulations to the winners from The King’s School who will be joining fellow mathematicians at the university later this month:
Maths teacher, Mrs Richards, congratulated the winners on their achievement.
She said: “Although we encourage all students to enter the challenges, there is no obligation for them to do so.
“I am proud that Tony and Matthew – along with many other pupils – chose to take on this challenge in their own time. Across the two challenges, the organisers received more than 1800 entries from 115 schools, so Matthew and Tony have done incredibly well to receive an invitation to the celebration evening at the university.”
