Mr O’s Charity Challenge

Junior School teacher Mr O’Neil is warming up for his next big charity challenge as he prepares to run five half marathons in five consecutive days.

This year, he has pledged to split all money raised between his own charity, The Hospice of the Good Shepherd, and two charities that are very close to the hearts of other members of staff.

He said: “Alongside raising funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, I will also be running for Alder Hey Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Society.

“Rowing Coach, Matt Jump, is an ambassador for Alder Hey and has already run many miles this year for the charity, and our Head of Junior School Sport, Charlotte Massey, supports Alzheimer’s Society in memory of her Mum and has raised thousands of pounds in the last six months.”

Mr O’Neil will begin his challenge at 5.45am on Monday, 30 June and invites colleagues, parents and fellow runners to join him on one or more of the days. Aiming to run the 13.1 miles in around two hours each day, Mr O promises that he will be at his desk for registration by 8.25am!

The daily run will start at the Senior School bus park exit lane and follow a route that takes in Duke’s Drive, The Roodee, the Riverside Promenade, Curzon Park and Westminster Park. The full route can be found on Mr O’s Justgiving Page – Crowdfunding For Good From JustGiving

Mr O’Neil is no stranger to a charity running challenge but will no doubt be grateful of the summer holiday when this challenge is over.

He concluded: “I am aiming to raise £2,000 and am grateful for all donations through my fundraising page. I am also looking forward to running with as many people as possible. I know that the Director of IT, Jake Warne will be joining me on at least one run, and colleagues who run the annual Deganwy Dash will also be there but anyone and everyone is welcome to run or just cheer us on!”
