Neha takes to stage for TEDx talk

On Saturday, 9 March, Sixth Form student Neha Sharma (L6GRO) took to the TEDx stage in Shaftesbury, Dorset to deliver her talk: How doomscrolling is killing your happiness

Neha was one of fourteen speakers to address the TEDx Youth event and decided to submit her idea for a talk as she thought it would be a good way to improve her public speaking skills.

She said: “I haven’t had much experience of public speaking and thought that this would be a good opportunity to practise speaking in front of an audience, and to talk about something I am interested in.”

Neha is currently studying A levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Psychology with ambitions to work in Neuroscience: “I am fascinated by the relationship between the brain and the body and particularly how our brains are impacted by repeated actions and thoughts. My talk explores this and I also thought that it would be relevant to the predominantly young audience at the event.”

She also enjoyed listening to the other talks delivered by her peers, including speakers from overseas, on a wide range of topics.

Neha concluded: “Speaking at TEDx Shaftesbury was a fabulous opportunity that I would recommend to anyone. I am definitely more confident in public speaking now and that is in no small part thanks to the support I received from the organisers, my peers and the audience in Shaftesbury.”

Neha’s talk will be available soon on YouTube and we look forward to sharing the link with the King’s community.
