Patron of Reading announces Summer Reading Challenge winners

In an exciting week at the beginning of October, we welcomed both of this year’s Patrons of Reading to speak to pupils in all areas of the school.

In Senior School, Phil Earle appeared virtually in the Wickson Library to introduce himself to Removes pupils.

Phil, who is a previous winner of the KSC Book Award for pupil favourite When the Sky Falls, was announced as Senior School Patron of Reading at the end of the last academic year

Describing himself as reluctant reader as a youngster, Phil encouraged the pupils to read what they loved, whether that was comic books, classic novels, poetry or graphic novels. He went on to talk about what makes a great story before announcing the winners of the Summer Reading Challenge.

All pupils who took part in the Summer Reading Challenge received a certificate, with special prizes going to the following:

  • Lydia Evans (RMRA) for reading the most books
  • Amelia Gregory (RMCI) for her fabulous embroidery of Black Beauty
  • Ava Kerruish-Jones (RMRL) for her entertaining video recreation of one the books she read
  • Dev Varma (RMRA) for his excellent book report

We are looking forward to welcoming Phil to King’s in person in January when he will spend time with Removes and other year groups.
