We are very proud of three Removes pupils who put their German skills to the test recently at the National Foreign Language Spelling Bee.
Challenged with learning 100 words for the Northwest Regional final held at the University of Liverpool, Eric Villarin-Follo (RMSC), Janelle Alalade (RMJR) and Ariella Roe (RMJR) competed in the German language competition, impressing judges with their spelling, understanding and pronunciation.
Deputy Head of Modern Language, Mr Bircham, was one of the teachers who accompanied the pupils to Liverpool.
He said: “All three of our young linguists were amazing today. “They have all been regular attendees of our lunchtime Spelling Bee club and their commitment and hard work have really paid off. They have only been learning German for two terms and I am so proud of the way in which they have embraced the language.
“Eric and Ariella will now progress to the National Finals to be held at the University of Cambridge in June and I look forward to helping them prepare for the next stage of the competition.”
Mr Bircham also thanked Routes into Languages for organising the competition: “It was a brilliant day. As well as the competition, the pupils also enjoyed a language quiz and even tried their hand at Chinese calligraphy. At King’s, we always aim to foster a love of language learning and it is great that opportunities like this exist to allow pupils to challenge themselves and celebrate their progress.”
