At 11am on 11 November, The King’s School Chester fell silent as pupils and staff joined the country in remembering all those who have given their lives in conflict, including the Old King’s Scholars who are remembered on our war memorial.
The two-minute silence followed the reading of the exhortation by Head of School, Rory Mallinson (U6WER) and the Last Post, played by Jake Bywater (U6GRO).
The playing of Reveille marked the end of the silence, after which Libby Greenberg (U6GLA), one of the Head of School team, recited the Kohima Epitaph.
Two senior CCF cadets led the wreaths to be laid at the war memorial outside the library.
The wreath-laying party comprised pupils from across the school who have family connections with the armed forces.
In Chester City Centre, Fifth year musician Will Appleton (5WER) led the city in remembrance as he played the Last Post at a short service led by the Lord Mayor.
Today’s acts of remembrance came two days after the city’s main service of remembrance when the school was represented by cadets from The King’s School Chester Combined Cadet Force and wreaths were laid on behalf of The King’s School and our Alumni Association, the Chester Association of Old King’s Scholars (CAOKS).
Pictured here are members of the wreath-laying party, the Head of School Team, together with CCF cadets and leaders. This year, the display of poppies, created by Junior School pupils a few years ago, grew to include purple poppies that commemorate animals who served and died in wartime.
