Removes go for musical gold

On Tuesday, 5 March, Removes students spent an entertaining afternoon at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra has been running schools concerts for more than 80 years and our students joined the 18,000 others who attend these special concerts every year.

The sport-themed concert, Going for Gold: The Orchestral Olympics, took students on a musical journey with pieces inspired by running, cycling and football, as well as the orchestra’s own attempt to break a world record by playing Chopin’s Minute Waltz in less than a minute.

The piece usually takes a full orchestra more than two minutes to play but the audience spurred them on to play the full piece in just 59 seconds, earning them all a gold medal!

The trip was led by Director of Music, Mrs Whitfield.

She said: “It has been a real treat to take the whole year group to the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

“For many of them, this was their first orchestral concert and, as each and everyone one of them has learned to play an orchestral instrument this year as part of our enhance Let’s Get Playing scheme, I think it resonated with them even more.

“They have been introduced to lots of different styles of music today and they were all given a postcard with a QR code so that they can listen again at home.”
