Rowing: Junior Inter-Regional Regatta - The King's School Chester

Rowing: Junior Inter-Regional Regatta

On Saturday, 25 April, the King’s School Chester Rowing Club (KSCRC) was out in force at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta, held at Nottingham’s National Water Sports Centre.

Sporting an orange kit, our rowers were proud to represent both their club and the North West as crews from around the country came together to compete for their region.

Sixteen geographic regions were represented at the regatta and the North West – or Team Orange – were out to show what they could do.

Nineteen of KSCRC’s J15 and J16 rowers were selected across a number of boat classes and we were proud to see a number of crews progressing to the finals:

  • J15 4+ and J16 4+ progressed to the A Final
  • WJ16 4, J16 composite 8+ and J16 2 progressed to the B Final

The A finalists finished 6th and 5th respectively, with some brilliant efforts to hold off/knock down some challenges during their races.

The J16 8+, steered by Ralph Whittingham (4WAL) came 6th in their B Final, showing great courage in their rowing.

The WJ16 4 were first through the 500m mark and, despite being one of the cleanest crews on the course, they were out muscled in the final 1000m, holding on for a great third place.

The J16 2 led for the majority of their race, finishing second in the B Final with a time that put them seventh in the country.

Director of Rowing, Nick Wells, congratulated the crews on a fantastic day: “I am incredibly proud of our rowers today. They really stood out; mot only because of their orange team shirts, but because of their technical rowing, immense effort and fantastic team spirit.

“Nottingham put on a stunning display of perfect rowing conditions for us and Team Orange certainly made the most of it!”
