Rowing: National Schools Regatta - The King's School Chester

Rowing: National Schools Regatta

Athletes from the King’s School Rowing Club (KSRC) delivered an outstanding series of performances at the 2026 National Schools Regatta, competing against the very best school rowing clubs in the country at Dorney Lake last month.

Across three days of racing, King’s crews demonstrated determination, resilience and exceptional teamwork, earning places in A and B Finals and producing a number of standout performances against some of the strongest opposition in British junior rowing.

Among the highlights was the Championship Open Coxless Four, who secured a place in the prestigious A Final and finished an impressive fourth in the country after a superbly executed race. The Championship Girls Pair also reached the A Final, matching the nation’s leading crews and finishing fourth overall. Elsewhere, the J16 Open Coxed Four produced a dominant performance to win their B Final, while the J16 Open Second Coxless Quad claimed a hard-fought second place in theirs.

The regatta also saw strong performances from our J15 crews. The Girls VIII secured a place in the B Final after an excellent time trial, while the Boys Quad finished fourth in a highly competitive B Final. Throughout the weekend, crews consistently demonstrated the technical skill, commitment and competitive spirit that have become hallmarks of King’s rowing.

Director of Rowing, Nick Wells, praised the athletes for their dedication both on and off the water. He said: “The regatta has shown us the importance of preparation, teamwork and a relentless focus on boat speed. While some crews narrowly missed out on higher placings, their experiences have only strengthened the young athletes’ determination to return even stronger next season.”

The regatta was also a fitting occasion to recognise the contribution of the club’s Upper Sixth rowers competing in their final National Schools Regatta.

Nick Wells again: “The leadership and commitment of our most senior rowers have helped shape the culture and success of the rowing club, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations of King’s rowers.

“I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the coaching team, whose expertise and dedication continue to develop both successful athletes and confident and resilient young people.

“And, of course, not forgetting the incredible support of the King’s School Rowing Club Parents’ Association (KSRCPA), whose volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to support athletes, coaches and families alike.”

National Schools Regatta 2026 brought moments of pride, challenge and achievement in equal measure. Most importantly, it showcased the strength of the King’s rowing community and reinforced our reputation as one of the leading school rowing clubs in the North of England.

Congratulations to all athletes, coaches, parents and supporters on a memorable and successful regatta.
