The annual Pudding Races are an opportunity for all members of the King’s School Rowing Club to come together and celebrate the end of the year.
This year’s river conditions meant that our colourful crews couldn’t get out on the water but it didn’t stop the fun as they pivoted to an ergo competition that was just as competitive as the real thing.
For Director of Rowing, Nick Wells, this was his first experience of the Pudding Races. He said: “What an incredible way to end the year – and my first term as Director of Rowing – here at the rowing club.
“There was an incredible energy at Saturday’s event; it’s not every day that you see the cast of Toy Story, bananas and a whole crew of Marios battling it out on the ergos!”
A highlight of the day was the naming of the club’s new racing coxless quad as “The David Blackham” and we were delighted that Mr Blackham was there in person to christen the boat with the customary bottle of champagne. David was the Director of Rowing for 15 years until he left King’s in the summer and it was a pleasure to welcome him back on such a special occasion.
Refreshments were provided by the King’s School Rowing Club Parents Association (KSRCPA) and the celebrations continued long after the final race ended.
