On the weekend of 9 May, rowers from Thirds and Fourths competed at the Shrewsbury Regatta.
Competition was tough as crews from around the country descended on Pengwern Boat Club for the annual event. Competing in a side-by-side, knockout event, this was the the first regatta for many of our younger rowers and excitement levels were high.
Coming away with three gold medals from the event, Director of Rowing, Nick Wells, was full of praise for the King’s crews.
He said: “What an amazing day for our young crews! The J14 VIIIs were all competing for the first time and put on impressive performances. The girls were brave in their racing but beaten by strong competition, and the boys took out their event, racing three times to clinch the gold.
“Our J15 crews were equally impressive with both boys’ and girls’ VIIIs winning gold.”
On the same weekend, the senior squad competed at the Nottingham City Regatta, the highlight of which was a win in the open pair by Daniel Burman (L6GLA) and Ben Cooper (U6DUT).
A great day of racing by all – Go King’s!
