Chris Bartley, an Olympic Star at King’s

It has been an honour to welcome Olympic rowing medallist Chris Bartley back to The King’s School. Chris, who used to be a student at King’s, spent time at the School during Open Day on Saturday, where many existing and prospective pupils, and their families had the opportunity to talk to Chris, see his medal and even get an autograph!

Chris returned to the School today to spend some time with all the King’s pupils. He took time to meet every single one of them, from the youngest pupils in Reception all the way through to the Sixth Form students. He also kindly agreed to attend both the Junior and Senior School assemblies, delivering a very honest and truly inspirational speech to them all. Pupils had the opportunity to watch the London 2012 Olympic footage where Chris and the GB rowing team won their Olympic Silver Medal, and were also able to ask lots of question to the Olympian about his life, his commitment to rowing and his training. Chris was inundated with requests for autographs, something pupils will take home and treasure for years to come.

For King’s pupils, prospective pupils, families and indeed staff, Chris has been a truly inspirational visitor. He spoke about the importance of pursuing your dreams, working hard and staying committed, but above all enjoying yourself, such an important message for pupils, and one that they all seemed to take on board. Chris ended his visit with, you guessed it, a trip to the River Dee with the King’s Rowing Club! Thank you once again Chris for all your time, a true Olympic Star!
