Senior School Prizegiving 2022

It was a pleasure to conclude the term with prizegiving ceremonies that recognised the achievements of our Senior School and Lower Sixth students.

Two ceremonies were held in the on-site marquee during which parents were entertained by readings, poems, and music performed by the Fourth Year Band.

Prizes were presented by two King’s Alumni, Dr Natasha Sayer and Mr Mike Sayer, who talked about how their time at King’s helped them as they progressed to university, and began to forge their careers.

Mr Mike Sayer (OKS 2002) is Head of Product Communications and Custodian of the Heritage Fleet at Bentley, and Dr Natasha Sayer (OKS 2002) is a Clinical Psychologist at the Priory Group.

Dr Sayer emphasised to students the importance of taking every opportunity presented to them at school, and reminded students to make the most of their time at King’s.

Congratulations to all of our Removes to Lower Sixth 2021 – 22 prize winners:

Lower Sixth Pupils – Sports Awards and Special Prizes

The Academic Essay Prize Victoria Froehling KS
The Lower Sixth Academic Essay Competition is designed to allow students to demonstrate many of the independent academic skills demanded by universities. Victoria Froehling is this year’s winner for her superb essay discussing the future of personalised medicine. Our independent judge was particularly impressed with Victoria’s excellent level of research, including detailed data and an extensive bibliography. Victoria wrote in a way which made a potentially very complicated topic easy to understand for a non-scientist and yet still contained pertinent and sophisticated points.

The Sarl-Williams instrumental Prize for Strings Peter Evans MS
Peter has had an excellent academic year on violin. He has been an admirable leader of the symphony orchestra, string orchestra and senior string quartet, sharing his knowledge with younger string players as the ensembles re-established themselves. He also plays for the Borders Orchestra in Broughton, an adult ensemble in which he is well respected. As a soloist he is working towards his Grade 8 exam. He plays with skill and an infectious enthusiasm, and it gives us great pleasure to present him with this well-deserved award.

The Sarl-Williams instrumental Prize for Woodwind Adèle Bracegirdle
Adèle is a talented musician with a true love of music. She is currently principal flue in the Halle Youth Orchestra, the National Youth Concert Band, the English Schools Orchestra and the JRNCM Chamber Orchestra. Having achieved distinction in Grade 8 Flute, Adèle is currently preparing for her DipABRSM. In May 2022, Adèle achieved outstanding success at the Chester Music Festival, winning six categories, including the Mary Lees Award for Performance, the Rushworth Rose Cup and the Barlow Cup for Composition. She is a great asset to the Music School and we look forward to sharing her musical journey next academic year.
