Small ensembles take centre stage

On May 10, it was the turn of our small group ensembles to take centre stage at the Lunchtime Recital.

The recital began with an assured performance of three Bach pieces by our String Quartet, Sara, James, Felix and Angela.

Next to take to the stage was our flute choir, which, with members from Removes to Sixth Form, is a great example of musical collaboration across year groups.

Adèle, Kitty, Mads, Fin, Sylvie, Alfie, Emilia, Lucie and Imogen rehearse together weekly under the guidance of Miss Banerjee, and their performance was a reflection of the work they have put in as a group.

The final performance of the day was a much-anticipated debut from our newly formed Funk Band.

The audience was thrilled by their lively rendition of the Theme from Rocky, which included a a number of solos to showcase the talents of the band’s members, Chris, Jack, Alfie, James, Jake and Giovanni.

Director of Music, Mrs Whitfield, was delighted with the turnout for the recital.

She said: “It was wonderful to see so many pupils and staff take time out of their lunch break to support our musicians.

“Our small group ensembles offer a different performance experience to an orchestra or band, and we encourage any of our instrumentalists to get involved. As our funk band shows, we also love it when students want to form new ensembles and we will always support them in this.”
