Bronze Medal Success for U12 Boys Hockey

Three pupils from King’s are celebrating success after playing in the National U12 Hockey Finals in Nottingham. Henry Lunn (RmCH), Barnaby Wallis (J4H) and Jacob Popplewell (RmCH) were part of the Deeside Ramblers team who finished up as bronze medallists. Deeside had gone through to the finals after winning the County and Northern events with a remarkable record of only conceding 1 goal in over 10 matches.

They arrived at Nottingham Hockey Centre to find their first game was against Surbiton, the Southern Champions. They were under pressure for much of the game, but equalised with the final play of the match with a short corner. Deeside then won their remaining three group games against Norwich, Beeston and Clifton only failing to reach the final owing to Surbiton’s marginally better goal difference.

However, Deeside brushed off their disappointment to win the third place match 3-1 against Old Loughtonians.

This was a great end to a successful season, with Deeside remarkably completing the National Event undefeated. What an achievement for such a young team!

Jacob has also been selected for the North West U13 team to play in the UK Regional Championship next month. The future looks very bright indeed for King’s hockey and we can’t wait to see what all three of these talented players will do next!
