Hockey Squad among England’s best in championship

Our Boys U13 Hockey Squad recently competed in the English National Championships at Nottingham Hockey Centre, where they eventually placed in the top 10 (9th) schools nationally.

The road to the finals has seen the team qualify through both the North West and North of England stages in March which ensured their place among the best schools in the country at Nottingham.

The squad members included Henry Lunn (SHGRO) (GK), Barnaby Wallis (RMNG), Henry Letts (RMGS), Henry Cook (SHWAL), Jacob Popplewell (SHGRO) (Capt), Joe Osborne (RMDR), Alex Starling (SHDUT), Lloyd Bennett (RMDR), Theo Irvine (RMMW) and Mikk Pold (SHLES).

The whole team performed fantastically against an array of high quality opposition with captain Jacob and Barnaby meriting particular mention. However the outstanding player was goalkeeper Henry who has played an important role throughout the campaign, including saving the penalty in the shootout against Manchester Grammar School that ensured progress to Nottingham. At the National Championships, Henry was the outstanding keeper on display and he kept the team in many of the games for long periods when backs were against the wall.

It’s been a fantastic season for Hockey at the school, with numerous successes throughout the age groups, with the Boys U13 squad adding yet another highlight to this great season.
