Inspiring Individual Sports Successes

In case you missed it, here is an update on some of our athletes who are having amazing individual successes.

Anna Harris (ShEH) competed in the World Schools Orienteering Championships in Sicily where she came 8th and 15th. She has also been selected to go on an orienteering camp near in Lagganlia (Scotland). This camp is for people born in 2003 and only the top twenty in the country are invited to attend.

Aled Bennett (5RH) is currently training for Hockey Wales U16 squad and will be in the squad playing against France, in the European Championships, in Poland this summer. He is also preparing for Chester 1st Team’s tournament in Bedford, playing against some of the biggest teams in England such as Cambridge City.

Matt Williams (U6CC) had a tough series against England for Hockey Wales’ U19 team. Wales played some excellent hockey, but unfortunately they couldn\’t get the ball in the goal! Matt intends to continue with the Hockey Wales Development Programme whilst at university and he is in the running to be training with the squad as they work towards the Commonwealth Games.

Sophie Williams (3RA) continues with her success in the quest for European Dressage selection on her pony Ella. Sophie has been selected for the GB short list for the European Championships in July after her recent trip to Saumur in France. She will compete in Roosendall during half term in her final bid to be selected for the European Championships next summer.

Izzie Howell (L6PW) is progressing with her Hockey Wales career. In their latest test series Wales lost to Ireland in the first match and then in the second match, (for the first time ever) they beat them! Scotland stole a victory in the last minute of their match, with a final score of 3-2, but then Wales beat Switzerland twice! Izzie is training hard over the summer to build on this excellent performance for next season.

Jasmine Denton (4PN) will have a very busy cricket based summer, as she’s playing for King\’s, Cheshire, North East Wales, Hawarden Ladies, and Northop Hall. She’s going on tour to Malvern with Cheshire Cricket for 3 days in the holidays and will be playing just about every single county team including Lancashire, Yorkshire, Durham, Cumbria and Lincolnshire.

Sophie Sinclair-Reeks (L6LM) is forging ahead with her ice hockey career as her team Deeside Dragons u18’s are this year’s National League Champions! This gained them promotion into the higher league. Next season Sophie will be signing for both women’s and men’s professional leagues and she is still training hard, with the aim of being selected for the GB squad for the World Championships in Poland next year.

Megan Gareh (L6AM) goes from strength to strength with Welsh Netball. She has recently been selected for the Wales U21 Talent Squad and training for this will start in September. She will also be competing for Wales in the England Netball U17 Netball Performance League tournament, held over four days at the University of Nottingham in August.

Wilf Le Brocq (U6KS) was the only junior cox to be selected to represent Great Britain for the Munich Regatta in May and he came home with 2 gold medals! Going forward, Wilf will focus on trialling for a seat in the World Championship team during this summer, after representing King’s as the 1st Eight Cox at the National Schools’ Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta.

Oliver Harrington (RmNG) came third in the English National Badminton Championships and third in the four day International Olve Tournament in Belgium, where nearly 400 competitors from 30 countries took part. He also attended a three day England Training Camp and will be attending a week long Legends Camp during half term.
