J15 girls finish 2017 strongly at Head of the Float

Last weekend, twenty J15 girls made the short trip to The Float at Wallasey for the annual head race which traditionally brings down the curtain on racing in the Michaelmas Term.

The King’s girls raced throughout the day in a variety of combinations in what proved to be a most productive day where many valuable lessons were learned. With just one boat length or less separating the two King’s boats throughout, the progress made by all members of the squad in their first term of sweep rowing was very apparent.

Overall, our girls posted the 2nd and 4th fastest times of the day from female crews (including all junior and senior crews) and in doing so managed the following results: –

  • WJ16 8+ – 1st & 3rd placewinning crew: Annabel Pochin, Madeline Ellis, Molly Rudd, Lily Van Loock, Hope Pearce, Natasha Crees, Emma Bosworth, Mansi Gupta, Mia Jones (cox)
  • WJ18 8+ – 1st & 2nd placewinning crew: Philippa Whitley, Emma Henry, Lauren Barnes, Olivia Barnes, Lucy Plunkett, Chloe Horton, Amy Miln, Lily Walker, Molly Ferrara (cox)
  • WNovice 8+ – both King’s crews in top 4 places against competition from university and senior club boats.

Credit also goes to Amy Miln and Mansi Gupta who raced again in the last race of the day forming a composite boat with seven J15 girls from Shrewsbury School affording the Shrewsbury girls the opportunity to race in an eight for the first time.

A great day out racing for the J15 girls and well done to all for such a positive term at the river – a great day for the team!
